Chief John Fisher of the Bedford Police Department announces the results of Saturation Patrols which focused on impaired driving.
On Saturday, Aug. 12, several Bedford Police Officers were deployed to target impaired drivers throughout the Town.
During this effort, 35 vehicles were stopped for motor vehicle violations, including equipment violations, marked lanes violations, and speeding. Most interactions were brief and the majority of operators were released with warnings.
Officers conducted an investigation after it was suspected that one operator may have been under the influence. This operator was arrested on the following charges:
- Operating Under the Influence of Intoxicating Liquor
- Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
- Marked Lanes Violation
This operator’s Blood Alcohol Content was determined to be more than three times the legal limit of .08. The vehicle was towed from the scene.
The purpose of these patrols is to educate the public and to strengthen the public’s awareness of the dangers of impaired driving. This is also to promote the necessity of detecting and removing motorists who operate while under the influence from the roadway. The biggest intention is to prevent these instances from occurring in the future.
